Area of Concentration and Research Lines

Area of Concentration

The area of concentration of the Graduate Program in Biology of Continental Aquatic Environments is Biodiversity, which aims to “aggregate and expand the critical mass involved in the process of description, understanding of organization and origin of biodiversity, as well as conservation and sustainable use of Brazilian biodiversity, considering the scientific challenges and those of human resources training imposed by the moment”.

Research Lines

Animal Biology in Continental Aquatic Environments

This line of research is aimed at the biological aspects of vertebrates and invertebrates that live permanently or have part of their life cycle related to continental aquatic environments.

Biology of Plants and Microorganisms in Continental Aquatic Environments

This line of research is aimed at the characterization of the biodiversity of aquatic macrophytes and autotrophic and heterotrophic microorganisms, as well as primary production, adaptive strategies, relationship with environmental quality conditions and technological applications.

General Limnology and Ecological Processes in Continental Aquatic Environments

This line of research is aimed at the variation patterns of the ecological parameters of energy flow and nutrient cycling in aquatic environments.
